Medical Laser Safety Officer Training

Instructor-led Training - Course Overview

Are you an RN, OR supervisor, surgical tech or training coordinator who has been assigned the critical responsibility of LSO in a medical facility? Designed to meet the special needs of medical professionals, LIA's Medical Laser Safety Course will provide the training you need to build and maintain a successful laser safety program.

As an LSO at a medical facility, you have a unique set of responsibilities. Not only is laser safety a top priority to protect your staff, but it is critical to protecting your patients. Our MLSO training program addresses the specific laser safety protocols as they relate to medical and healthcare environments.

This course meets all LSO training requirements as outlined by the ANSI Z136.3 Safe Use of Lasers in Health Care standard, OSHA, and The Joint Commission.

A certificate of completion is earned upon course completion; however, this should not be confused with becoming a certified medical laser safety officer (CMLSO). To become a CMLSO, you must meet specific requirements and pass a certification examination that is intended to promote professional advancement. This certification exam is given by the Board of Laser Safety (BLS).

The CMLSO examination is offered by the BLS via paper-and-pencil in the Spring and Fall, and is also available via computer-based testing centers through Prov Inc. For the most up-to-date test dates and locations, visit the BLS website. This course fulfills one of the eligibility pre-requisites. If you are interested in taking this optional CMLSO exam, please visit the BLS to review eligibility requirements. All applications must be submitted to the BLS at least 2-weeks prior to the exam date. All fees associated with the CMLSO examination are to be paid directly to the Board of Laser Safety.
