Understanding the New ANSI Z136.7 from an Eyewear Perspective

ANSI Z 136.7 American National Standard for Testing and Labelling of Laser Protective equipment was developed to provide recommendations for the testing requirements of protective equipment ( eyewear, windows and barriers) used in the laser industry. This paper will concentrate on the testing requirements for absorbing materials used in the manufacturing of laser eyewear. A comparison will be made on how these requirements differ or are aligned with various other laser safety standards including ANSI Z 136.1 For the Safe Use of Lasers and EN 207 Personal eye-protection-Filters and eye-protectors against laser radiation. New information and test requirements that are now required to be available will also be highlighted to help the user make a more informed decision when purchasing laser protective eyewear.
