In this paper, alumina ceramic samples were ablated with HGW-300 solid laser in sodium hydroxide solution. The influence of technical parameters, such as processing voltage, scanning speed, scanning width repeat frequency and sodium hydroxide concentration , on weight loss of the samples were studied. The morphology and structure of the ablated surface were investigated by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray radiation diffraction. The results show that, in sodium hydroxide solution, there are alumina melts and corrosion scale on the irradiated surface, corrosive medium can increase the losing of alumina weight. In twenty g/l sodium hydroxide solution , the losing of alumina weight is the highest.
