A release of IEC 60825-1:2007 necessitated to upgrade IEC TR 60825-5:2003. The new edition of the Technical Report reflects modification of the new standard relative to IEC60825-1:2001 such as the removal of LEDs from the scope of the standard for most products, modification of the definition of the apparent source size, fail safe and fail safe safety interlock definitions, human access, most restrictive position, manual reset, beam stop and attenuator, walk-in access, labeling, radiation output and standard information, information for the user, repetitively pulsed or modulated laser, failure analysis, measurement of laser radiation including default and for extended sources. The manuscript describes ramifications of the changes in IEC60825-1:2007 with respect to the collateral standards such as IEC 60950-1 and IEC61010-1. The changes were implemented in order of the paragraphs in the original edition of IEC TR 60825-5. The author proposes that the new Manufacturer Checklist should constitute the framework for the new proposed version IEC 60825-1.
