Of particular interest to this laser safety officer is unattended laser operation of class 3B and class 4 laser systems. The existing standard calls for the use of the standard ANSI Z535.1 Danger sign with appropriate instructions regarding the hazards of entry into the space when no operator is present. The goal of this presentation is to present this is a common scenario in research settings and needs to be addressed as such. In addition the author is suggesting replacing the Danger sigh with an ANSI Z535.1 Warning sign.
