The highly demand of porous metallic materials in the last decades to use in several fields, like the building and aeronautic industry, as well as the automotive industry, has stimulated the research of new techniques to manufacture porous materials in order to give response to the new needs of the society, with the main purpose of avoid the main drawbacks of convectional foams manufacturing techniques. In that sense, a laser cladding technique based on a high power diode laser, via lateral powder injection, to produce porous metallic structures has been presented in this work, with the aim of avoid the limitation of the conventional methods to produce porous materials. A systematic study of the influence of the processing parameters in the morphology and distribution of the pores in the metallic structure has been done. The results of porous metallic structures produced by this technique will be presented.
