MATLAB is a program for numeric computation, simulation and visualization, developed by the Mathworks. It is used heavily in education, research, and industry, for general and special purpose problem solving that arise in various disciplines such as control theory, statistics, and digital signal processing, etc. For this purpose MATLAB has numerous sets of application-specific scripts, called "toolboxes", such as the Control System Toolbox, Image Processing Toolbox, Neural Network Toolbox, and Signal Processing Toolbox.

The new, open source, Laser Toolbox provides scripts for (measurement) analysis and visualisation of laser beam properties, as well as, laser material interaction & processes. The current version of the toolbox includes scripts for:
- reading, analyzing and visualizing measured power density profiles, and their propagation,
- calculation and visualisation of
* laser pulses on a material,
* Transverse Electro-magnetic Modes,
* 3D temperature profile induced by a moving laser beam in a solid material,
- calculation of the required power density profile based on the desired 3D temperature pofile in a solid material.

Source code, examples and documentation can all be found at:

The Laser Toolbox was developed for MATLABTM version 7.5, and will run any operating system supported by MATLAB.
