Although polymers laser processing is a relative recently technological procedure, the remarkable results obtained are encouraging the continuation of the researches with the purpose of extending its utilization. Laser processing is difficult to control because of the nature and complexity of the phenomena and processes that are developing among the laser beam/polymer interaction (absorption of the radiation, electronic or vibrational excitation, ablation, vaporization, material ejection). This paper presents a study of the polycarbonate laser grooving process. The experimental results will be used for achieving some parallel grooving patterns, in order to improve the tribological behavior of the polycarbonate. The grooves are characterized by the following performance parameters: width l, depth h and ratio l/h. The researches are focused on the obtaining of different ratio l/h, for the same value of the groove width. The influence factor considered is the number of successive passes nop, realized on the same groove direction.

For studying the influence of the number of passes, the experimental data were processed by using ANOVA method. This method consists of comparing the variance caused by the influence factor levels with the experimental variance, obtained by replicating each experimental run.
