In the international laser safety standard, IEC 60825-1 measurement criteria account for increased potential risk when exposure occurs with eye loupes (magnifiers) and with telescopes, respectively. An experimental analysis was performed with a number of eye loupes and telescopes for a range of sources in order to determine the impact of optical instruments on the accessible power level, as well as on the angular subtense of the apparent source.
