When it comes to laser safety, it is often advantageous to think outside the box for maximum impact to laser users and non-laser users. The standard regulations, such as ANSI, OSHA, and IEC, give fine examples of control measures, but they might not always be the best fit for the situation. As lasers gain in popularity because of their increasing sophistication and/or because of their affordability, Laser Safety Officers, out of necessity, are prompted to be creative when implementing control measures and communicating safety to laser users, non-laser users, and site visitors.

The purpose of this paper is to describe a variety of distinct and noteworthy laser safety controls measure in place at a variety of industries. From laser protective eyewear to television monitors, and everywhere in between, even simple, yet creative, safety controls can positively impact the mindset of the laser user and enhance the overall safety culture of the company or institution where lasers are used.
