This paper deals with the laser welding of advanced high strength steels (AHSS) which have properties promising for automotive applications. Experimental investigation of the CO2 laser welding of similar and dissimilar grades of AHSS (such as DP-W600 and PM-800) and new sandwich material is reported. Furthermore, a theoretical process model was developed and is presented for calculating the laser weld geometry. The theoretical and experimental results are compared and discussed.
