30KW Peak Power Flash-Lamp Pumped Novel nd:YAG Solid-State Laser

A high energy high peak power flash-lamp pumped pulsed Nd:YAG solid-state laser is reported in this paper. Symmetrical plano-plane resonator is adopted and the pump module adopts dual-lamps pumped elliptical gold plating cavity. The figure of the dependence of the maximum operating frequency on the pulse width with operating voltage 800V shows that if the pulse width multiplying pulse frequency is constant, so is the 30kW output peak power. When pulse width is 2ms, pulse frequency is 5Hz, the output energy is 60.5J with the peak power 30.3KW and the beam parameter product 2mm.mard, The total electro-optics efficiency of the lamp-pumped Nd:YAG laser is as high as 3.1%. Another advantage of the laser is that the discharge current is changeable. It is controlled for different cutting and welding procedures. Usually the pulse width is divided into several parts with different discharge currents respectively. We use the laser to cut 6mm mild steel and 4mm stainless steel. The speed of cutting 4mm stainless steel is 1mm/s with the parameters: operating voltage 800V, pulse width 2ms, frequency 5Hz, single pulse energy 60J and the peak power 30KW. The speed of cutting 6mm mild steel is 1.5~2mm/s with the same parameters. The smaller cutting heat-affected zone and less recast etc are obtained, and the material processing experiments are going on for different materials.
