Costs to repair damaged, worn, or corroded metal components, such as valves and other cylindrical bodies, may be reduced if the repairs are performed in the field. In many cases, clad repairs must be realized in non-standard positions and in tight quarters. Additionally, in many cases the repair cannot utilize a powder-based clad process due to fear of contamination of adjacent components. Experiments have been conducted investigating the effects of various process parameters in wire-based, out-of-position laser cladding. Results will be presented and discussed.
