Laser-oxygen cutting of mild steel is a widely used process. The energy input from the exothermic oxidation reaction contibutes a significant amount of energy. The amount of energy liberated by the reaction is temperture dependent, a fact that is frequently overlooked in the modelling of the process. This work correctly incorporates the temperature dependence of the energy input from the oxidation reaction.
