Flexible 3-D - Laser Cutting and Welding with the Combi-Head

Integrated manufacturing with the laser combi-head allows to perform cutting and welding operations with a single tool. Thus an arbitrary and instantaneous change of processes becomes possible. First industrial applications demonstrate flexible production with technical and economical advantages resulting from shorter process chains, and higher accuracy by using a single tool center point for both processes. This even supersedes seam tracking. Besides 2D-applications, the focus of the current work is on 3D-cutting and welding. New results using the latest generation of the combi-head are shown. This head is optimized for robots with internal beam guidance enabling enhanced 3D-capabilities. The influence of process parameters such as focal position and beam quality on combi-processing is discussed. A dynamical laser modulation control is demonstrated with relevance not only for combi-processing, but also for laser cutting and welding in general.
