Recently simultaneous pursuit of economic development and environmental preservation has been one of the most important issues for establishment of sustainable gravel production. It is well known that metals are strong and ductile and plastics are light and flexibly formable. Therefore, joining metals and plastics is outstandingly worthy of note; however, the joining with adhesion bonds (glue) has environmental burdens and limits the high throughput in mass production. A new innovative method should be developed for joining metals and plastics without adhesion bonds. Therefore, we have developed a new Laser-Assisted Metal and Plastic (LAMP) joining method unique in the world. It was revealed that LAMP joining method could produce joints between various metals and plastics. Type 304 and PA plastic joint samples of 30 mm in width possessed shear loads of more than 1,500 N, and the same sized samples of SUS 304 and plastic PET joint were broken in the base PET sheet to achieve the load of 2,500 N.
