The coherence, directionality and high power in the focal area make laser sources a very convenient source for controlled heating of a sample. The distribution of heat and temperatures produced by laser heating could also be used to control the rea...$28.00
ICALEO 2007 Paper #P502 (An Analysis of Co2 and High Power Diode Laser Generated Glazes on Concrete in Terms of Wear)
An Analysis of Co2 and High Power Diode Laser Generated Glazes on Concrete in Terms of Wear
Authors:
Jonathan Lawrence, Loughborough University; Leicestershire Great Britain
Presented at ICALEO 2007
The wear characteristics of a glaze generated on the ordinary Portland cement (OPC) surface of concrete was using a 2 kW high power diode laser (HPDL) and a 3 kW CO2 laser have been determined. Within both normal and corrosive environmental conditions, the wear rate of the CO2 and HPDL generated glazes were consistently higher than the untreated OPC surface of concrete. Life assessment testing revealed that surface glazing of the OPC with both the CO2 and the HPDL effected an increase in wear life o...$28.00

Fibre lasers are attractive for use in welding process because of their combination of properties which include high power and a good beam quality. However, the use of fibre lasers as a power source to join stainless steel has not been extensively researched. The aim of this research is to establish suitable parameters for fibre laser welding ...$28.00

Laser material processing is extensively used by numerous industries because the flexibility and cleanliness provided, but still with the advantages, is a complex process due the parameters that participate and interact. To overcome this issue, is essential to clearly understand the influence that exerts the p...$28.00

Presented at ICALEO 2007
The authors have newly developed a LA-GTA (laser-activated Gas Tungsten Arc) welding process, which exerts a drastic effect on the increase in the GTA weld penetration. If this technique, which eventually controls the melt flows in the weld molten pool driven by the surface tension gradient, so called Marangoni convection, is applicable to the laser welding process, the laser weldabil...$28.00

Presented at ICALEO 2007
We have investigated interaction of a nanosecond 266 nm laser with different glasses (zinc borosilicate, boro-aluminosilicate, borosilicate, fused silica, etc). Single pulse ablation behavior of the glasses at near threshold conditions was studied and the ablated area was measured with interferometry, SEM and AFM techniques. Based on the results we present single pulse ablation thresholds and correlations between ablation thresholds and material absorptions, material compositions...$28.00

Since the 1990's, European shipbuilding industries introduced hybrid welding process in order to decrease thermal distortion of welded joints in passenger shipbuilding. In this study, we investigated effects of hybrid welding parameters on the toughness of weld metal using DH36 steel in order to obtain more sound welds in passenger shipbuilding. Type of leading process, joint gap distance and chemical composition of consumables were considerably correlated with the toughness ...$28.00
