ICALEO 2019 will feature 4 industry-specific conferences that will become the core focus of each day: Aerospace, Biomedical, Microelectronics, and Automotive. The improved conference structure will build on the traditions of the technical conference while driving commercial value for sponsors and exhibitors. Additionally, LIA will actively support the development of its sponsor and member networks before, during and after the event.
Each of the industry foci will have its own Business and Technical Plenary Session, Business Conference, and Evening of Innovation Reception. The ICALEO Technical Conference and its workshops will span across the 4 day conference with some emphasis on each of the focused industry verticals as well as other notable industry applications. This change in program structure has resulted in significant interest from the end-user community and their tier 1, 2 and 3 suppliers. About Dominic Woitun
Dominic Woitun's current research focuses on metal polymer joints and the interaction of both materials in the boundary layer. He uses laser pre-treatment of the metal part to investigate the effect of different surface characteristics on joint properties. Before starting his PhD at Robert Bosch GmbH in cooperation with Fraunhofer LBF, he studied mechanical engineering at the University of Stuttgart, where he mainly focused on material science and simulation.
About Thierry Marchione
Senior Laser Engineering Specialist in Caterpillar’s Research and Advanced Engineering organization, with more than 30 years of industry experience. In his current role leading Caterpillar’s efforts in metal additive manufacturing..Thierry holds a B.S. in Optics and a M.S in Photonic Laser Applications from University of Strasbourg, France. He has authored over 15 technical papers and currently holds 12 U.S. patents.

Dr. Adam Argondizzo received his undergraduate degree in physics from Grove City college in 2010. He continued onto his PhD, which he received from the University of Pittsburgh in 2016, where he worked on studying two-photon photoemission spectroscopy of TiO2. He has been employed as an optical design engineer for II-VI Inc. for 3 years where he designs custom optical solutions for infrared optical systems.

About Kumar Patel, Ph.D.
Dr. C. Kumar N. Patel is the CEO and Chairman of the Board. He is the inventor of the carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and the Spin-Flip Raman lasers. He pioneered the use of these and other lasers to measure trace gases in difficult environments. He was at AT&T (now Lucent Technologies) Bell Laboratories for thirty-two years and was Executive Director of the Physics Division and of the Materials Research Division. From 1993 to 1999 he was the Vice Chancellor for Research at UCLA.
Dr. Patel was elected to the National Academy of Science in 1974 and the National Academy of Engineering in 1978. He received the National Medal of Science given by the President of the United States in 1996. In recognition of the CO2 laser's importance to the medical field, he has been elected as an Honorary Member of the Gynecologic Laser Surgery Society in 1980 and in 1985 he was elected an Honorary Member of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery.
He serves on the Board of Directors of Newport Corporation and was inducted into the US National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2012.

Mr. Ream is a pioneer in the development of laser materials processing technologies. Starting in the ‘70s with his participation in high-power laser welding development for the Air Force, Navy, and NASA, Mr. Ream has continued to contribute to a broad range of laser applications and production implementations. Through his previous diverse employment experiences, including Sciaky Bros., AVCO Everett Research Laboratories, IIT Research Institute, Battelle, Amada, GE Fanuc, Worthington Industries (TWB), and Edison Welding Institute (EWI), Mr. Ream has gained a broad perspective on the technological and marketing forces that have shaped the laser materials processing world.
About Tony Lee, Ph.D.
Tony Lee completed his Ph.D. in Physics from University of California, Davis, in 1996 and then completed a post doc in laser physics at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. He worked at Textron and Agilent as a senior scientist and currently works as a staff applications engineer at Coherent, Inc. His current interest is in the machining and cutting of brittle materials using ultrashort pulse lasers.

Dr. Markus Kogel-Hollacher began his activities in the laser at the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology (Aachen) in 1994. Since then the focus of his work is in the field of monitoring and control of laser processes. In 1996 he joined Precitec, Germany. Dr. Kogel-Hollacher is a member of the board of directors at the LIA, member of the Board Of Stakeholders at Photonics21 in Brussels, was Finalist at the Innovation Award Laser Technology in 2012 and 2014 and served as an expert for evaluating project proposals on national and international level.

Florian Kiefer is currently Manager of Laser Applications for TRUMPF Inc. in North America. He has 10 years of experience in short and ultra short pulsed lasers for industrial and research micro processing applications. Mr. Kiefer has worked with various lasers for developing applications and has held various positions in applied laser processing in the US and Germany. Mr. Kiefer holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Duale-Hochschule Baden-Wuerttemberg of Germany.
About Masoud Mohammadpour
Masoud Mohammadpour is a PhD student at the Research Center for advanced Manufacturing (RCAM) at Southern Methodist University. He received his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on fatigue life studies of FSSW aluminum 7075-T6 joints at Urmia University, Iran in 2012. His current field of research includes laser welding of lightweight materials and hybrid laser-arc welding for similar and dissimilar joints with the purpose of optimized and improved quality of weld.
About Marc Auger
As a Sales Development Manager, Marc is focused on growing Coherent’s automotive business by finding new and innovative solutions with lasers. Marc has previously worked for a resistance projection welding company and Magna’s Body and Chassis group. He started his career in production plants supporting stamping and assembly before moving to Metro Detroit holding various positions in product design, sales, business development and R&D. He has been working with lasers for over 20 years having welded steel and aluminum for body in white and powertrain applications.

About Yves Bellouard
Dr. Yves Bellouard is Associate Professor in Microengineering at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland, where he heads the Galatea lab and the Richemont Chair in micromanufacturing. Before joining EPFL in 2015, he was Associate Professor at Eindhoven University of Technologies (TU/e) in the Netherlands and prior to that, Research Scientist at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, New York for about four years. His research interests are on new paradigms for system integration at the microscale such as laser-based methods to tailor material properties for achieving higher level of functional integration.
About René Bischoff
René has a degree in Mechanical Engineering, with a major in Production, from the Technical University in Dresden. His interest for laser cladding started while, parallel to his studies, he was offered an internship at the Thermal Coating department from Fraunhofer IWS in Dresden. Since 2014 he has been developing several coating solutions (bearings, wear protection, etc.) with high power laser cladding for the automobile industry.
About Ya Cheng
Ya Cheng received his BS degree from the Fudan University in 1993, and his PhD degree from the Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics (SIOM), Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1998. He is now a professor of SIOM and Dean of School of Physics and Materials Science, East China Normal University (ECNU). His current research interests include ultrafast laser manufacturing for on-chip photonic integration applications, 3D ultrafast laser printing and ultrafast nonlinear optics in tunnel ionization regime. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics – London.
About Tim Hesse
Tim Hesse graduated in mechanical engineering from the University of Hanover. In 2006 he finished his PhD in the area of laser welding. Today he is a specialist in laser cutting, welding and process control. Currently he is Head of Research and Development for Laser Applications at TRUMPF Laser- und Systemtechnik GmbH in Ditzingen, Germany.

About Dongshi Zhang, Ph.D.
Dr. Dongshi Zhang obtained his PhD degree from Xi’an Jiaotong University in 2014, soon after he joined Prof. Stephan Barcikowski group, Technical chemistry I, Duisburg-Essen University, Germany to do a postdoctoral research. In 2017, he joined Prof. Koji Sugioka group to pursue his postdoctoral study on preparation, manipulation and application of nanomaterials and nanostructures developed by laser ablation.
About Daniela Serien, Ph.D.
Daniela Serien graduated in 2015 from the University of Tokyo with a doctoral degree. For the next half year (7 months), she continued to work with Prof. S. Takeuchi in the Biohybrid Systems Laboratory at the University of Tokyo. In spring 2016, Serien transferred to RIKEN, RIKEN Center for Advanced Photonics, to the team of Prof. K. Sugioka. She continuously worked on the laser fabrication of proteinaceous microstructures. Recently, SPIE recognized the work for its idea and potential with the 3D Printing, Fabrication, and Manufacturing Best Paper Award at Photonics West 2019.

Sanghoon Ahn received his Bachelor’s degree (2006) and Master’s degree (2008) from Seoul National University, South Korea both in Mechanical Engineering. He obtained a Ph.D. degree (2013) from University of California at Berkeley in Mechanical Engineering. After working for developing next generation display at Samsung display as a senior engineer from 2013 to 2015, he joined the Laser & Electron beam application Department at Korea Institute of Machinery and materials as a senior researcher.

Antoni Artinov, born in 1991 in Aytos (Bulgaria), received his M.Sc. in the field of Engineering Science from the Berlin Institute of Technology and his M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the Tomsk Polytechnic University. Since 2016 he is working as a research assistant at the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing in Berlin, Germany in the department “Welding Technology”. Currently, he is working in the field of mathematical modelling of laser beam welding processes.
About Alessandro Ascari
Alessandro Ascari is a research fellow at the Department of Industrial Engineering of The University of Bologna. He got his Ph.D in Laser welding of difficult-to-weld and cellular materials and he has been working on laser based manufacturing since 2005. His main research topics include high power laser welding, pulsed and low power laser welding of high reflectivity and dissimilar materials, laser surface hardening, laser cladding and additive manufacturing. He authored more than 60 publications both on international journals and conferences and he is a member of the IIW-International Institute of Welding.
About Marcel Bachmann
Dr.-Ing. Marcel Bachmann, born 1984 in Berlin, is with the BAM Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing in Berlin, Germany in the department “Welding Technology” since 2009 where he is leading the working group Welding Simulation. He received his diploma from the Berlin Institute of Technology in Engineering Science and his PhD for numerical investigations of electromagnetically-assisted high power laser beam welding processes. Currently, he is working on several projects involving numerical simulations in welding processes.

Born in 1995 in Hildesheim. Studied mechanical engineering at TU Clausthal from 2013 to 2018. Finished master degree in fall 2018 with a thesis about a modular enclosure for 3D-Scanning optics in cooperation with TRUMPF Laser. Since October 2018 working for the TU Clausthal at Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. in the additive manufacturing - metals group. Current research about multi-material laser metal deposition.
About Marie Bold
Marie-Noemi Bold graduated in material science in 2018 after studying in Aachen, Germany, and Padova, Italy. The focus during her bachelor’s degree was on metallic materials and during her master’s degree, she specialized in Additive Manufacturing processes, focusing on Laser Powder Bed Fusion. At the Chair of Digital Additive Production of RWTH Aachen University, Germany, she works on improving geometric precision in the Laser Metal Deposition process by understanding the interactions between laser beam, powder beam and the substrate material.
About Paul Boulware
Paul leads EWI’s research and development efforts in process sensing and control of metal additive processes. He played a leadership role in the design and fabrication of EWI’s open architecture L-PBF test bed and manages a portfolio of quality control projects on this unique system and other metal additive systems throughout the institute. In addition to his additive manufacturing experience, Paul has developed numerous customer hardware and software solutions for monitoring and controlling all aspects of materials joining processes.

Jim Bovatsek is a manager of applications engineering at the MKS Spectra-Physics industrial applications laboratory in Santa Clara, California. He has focused on laser applications development using nanosecond, picosecond, and femtosecond pulsed lasers since 2000, with various patents and publications having been generated. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Physics) degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
About Ruediger Brockmann
Rüdiger Brockmann studied Laser Application Technology at University of Applied Sciences, Münster, Germany and Engineering at the Technical University of Chemnitz. He received a PhD from the TU Chemnitz. From 2002 to 2006 he worked on process development at Volkswagen. From 2006 to 2009 he was responsible for the product management of all Solid-State-Lasers with an output power of ? 1 kW at TRUMPF Laser in Schramberg, Germany. Since 2009 he is with TRUMPF Laser- und Systemtechnik in Ditzingen, Germany and responsible for Industry Management Automotive and currently he is responsible for the Industry- / Productmanagement and Marketing at .
About Maximilian Brosda
Maximilian Brosda is research assistant at the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology with the technical focus on laser processing of polymer films. He studied mechanical engineering and product management at RWTH University and at the University of Applied Science in Aachen. He worked for the Prolas Company before becoming self-employed in the field of spectral quality assurance of polymers. Since 2010 he has been working for the Fraunhofer ILT. First in laser polishing of glasses and since 2013 in laser welding of polymers. Since 2016 he has been teaching for the Chair of Laser Technology at RWTH Aachen University.
About Mingyong Cai
Mingyong Cai received his B.S. degree from the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China, in 2015. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate under the supervision of Prof. Minlin Zhong at the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Tsinghua University. His research interests mainly focus on the ultrafast laser micro-nano processing and the synthesis of nanomaterials for electrocatalytic and photoelectrochemical water splitting.

Marc Castaing obtained his PhD in 2009 at Institut d'Optique Garduate School de Paris. He worked as R&D laser engineer at Lumera (Germany), Azur Light System,and Thales (Elancourt). He is today Business and Application Engineer at NOVAE. NOVAE is a french company founded in january 2013 to develop and market ultra-short pulsed lasers emitting in the mid-infrared.
About James Chen
Dr. James Chen received Ph.D. from Zhejiang University in China. He joined Stelco in 2005 working on the development of advanced high strength steel. He worked at Siemens Energy from 2007 to 2011 on the development of laser welding and additive manufacturing. Currently, Dr. Chen is a senior research scientist at CnametMATERIALS of Natural Resource Canada and an adjunct professor at University of Waterloo and McMaster University. His research is in the area of laser materials processing, advanced welding and joining. He is a Professional Engineer and an International Welding Engineer.
About Lin Chen
Lin Chen is studying for a doctorate at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (China) and she is responsible for the speech work of this investigation.. At present, she mainly studies the laser welding of aluminum alloys by comparing different processes combined with numerical simulation, so as to obtain welds with fewer defects, better forming and excellent mechanical properties.
About Xi Chen
Xi Chen is a Ph.D candidate and he is in the third year of PhD study in School of Materials Science and Engineering at Harbin Institute of Technology in China. His major is materials processing and engineering. His research focuses on laser surface texturing and laser welding. Especially dissimilar materials laser welding/brazing technology combined with laser surface texturing technology.
About He Cheng
He Cheng is a PhD student in CREOL, The College of Optics and Photonics, University of Central Florida. Mr. Cheng is currently working on laser-based additive manufacturing, particularly two-photon polymerization, with the goal to improve fabrication throughput using spatial laser beam shaping techniques. His current interest is in Bessel beam and other non-diffracting beams.
About David Corbin
Dr. David Corbin joined Penn State ARL in 2019 as an Assistant Research Professor and has been involved in the prediction and control of part deformation through thermal-mechanical modeling of Directed Energy Deposition and Powder Bed Fusion processes. He additionally has experience in sensor integration, and sensor/data analytics for determining the quality of AM components including applications of process control and machine learning.
About Francois Courvoisier
Dr Francois Courvoisier completed his Master’s degree in fundamental physics at Ecole Normale Supérieure de Cachan, France. He received his PhD degree from University of Lyon, France on the topics of filamentation of femtosecond laser pulses and ultrafast spectroscopy. In 2005-2006 he carried out postdoctoral research in the Group of Applied Physics-biophotonics, Geneva.. In 2006 he joined CNRS at FEMTO-ST institute, France as permanent researcher and he has developed novel research concerning femtosecond laser processing and nondiffracting beams. He was awarded the Aimé Cotton Prize of the French Physical Society in 2015. He leads an ERC-Consolidator project started in 2016.
About Tamara Delgado
She has a PhD in Laser, Photonics and Vision from the University of Santiago de Compostela (Spain). Her doctoral research was focused on the microstructuring of glass by a hybrid laser machining technology for microfluidic and micro-optical applications. She is currently working at AIMEN as a laser processing researcher. She has participated in several european and national projects related to the development of laser processes in PV (ECOSOLAR), laser fabrication of microfluidic devices (NANOEATERS) or laser processes for EWOD devices fabrication (SWITHC). In addition, her work at AIMEN is focused also on laser surface functionalization.
About Stephen Dondieu
Stephen graduated from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in 2015 with a BSc in Metallurgical engineering. In 2016, he served as a teaching assistant at the department of materials engineering KNUST. He obtained an MSc in Welding engineering at Cranfield University in 2017. During his master’s degree, he undertook a project to investigate dissimilar welding of ultra-thin metallic alloys. His final dissertation investigated plasma and laser cleaning of titanium for Wire Additive manufacturing. Stephen is currently pursuing a PhD at Heriot-Watt University on “High-quality, high-speed laser engraving using high average power nanosecond pulsed fibre lasers”.
About Xinpeng Du
Xinpeng Du is a Post-Doctoral Associate in CREOL (The College of Optics & Photonics) at The University of Central Florida. He joined in CREOL/UCF in fall 2018. He is working in the Ultrafast laser processing lab with Dr. Xioming Yu and Dr. Arivanda Kar. He got his Ph.D. degree from The Ohio State University. His primary research is to develop an ultrafast laser processing system for industrial applications.

Chao Fang, assistant researcher in the Institute of Plasma Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, graduated from Lappeenranta Univeristy of Technology with mechanical engineering in 1016, His research direction is welding technology in fusion engineering, he is incharge of the laser welding on the ITER correction coil case and it manufacturing.
About Camilo Florian Baron
Postdoctoral researcher at the department 6.4 Technologies with nanomaterials at BAM in Berlin, Germany. The focusing research area he has been working is Applied Physics, specifically in femtosecond-based processing of materials following both additive and subtractive approaches. PhD in Nanosciences by the University of Barcelona and former Postdoctoral fellow at the Spanish National Research Council. Currently is participating in a research project on the fabrication of laser-induced periodic surface structures to modify the sticking mechanisms of cells in biomedical materials (CSA - CellFreeImplant).
About Ian Fordyce
Ian Fordyce is currently a final year PhD candidate at the Centre for Advanced Manufacturing (CAM) at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. Specialising in Laser Metal Deposition (LMD) technology, Mr Fordyce’s research is focused on the practical application of additive manufacturing technology to the repair of wear-resistant cast iron components for the mineral processing industry. Prior to the doctoral degree, Mr Fordyce completed a degree in mechanical engineering, also at RMIT university, and has almost a decade of experience in the automotive sector.
About John Fourkas
John Fourkas is the Millard Alexander Professor of Chemistry at the University of Maryland, College Park. He earned a BS and an MS in Chemistry from the California Institute of Technology and a PhD in Chemistry from Stanford University. He is a Fellow of the APS, the OSA, and the AAAS. His work is focused on applications of nonlinear optics in the study and manipulation of matter, particularly at the nanoscale. His research group has extensive experience in the development of multiphoton lithographic techniques and their application to a broad range of problems.
About André Fritzsche
André Fritzsche, born in 1987, is a PhD student at theFederal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Berlin. Since 2011, he has been working on the experimental investigation of the electromagnetic influence of the molten bath during laser beam welding in the department 'Welding Technology' at Prof. Rethmeier. After completing his Master's degree in 2015, he began his PhD in Prof. Rethmeier's department on the topic of electromagnetic pore reduction in laser beam welding of aluminum alloys which is supervised by Prof. Hilgenberg.

Dr. Gateau Julien started in 2017 at the position of Postdoctoral Researcher at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale of Lausanne (EPFL) in the GALATEA group of the Professor Yves Bellouard. He graduated a PhD on Ultra-fast Spectroscopy and Biophotonics at the University of Geneva in the Group of Professor Jean-Pierre Wolf in 2017.

About Ken Gross
Ken Gross is a Laser Applications Engineer, currently focused on advanced laser cutting for nLIGHT’s Industrial Fiber Laser Division. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Applied Physics, with an emphasis in Photonics and Electro-Optic Devices, from the Univ. of Oregon. He holds three U.S. Patents related to laser-based materials processing. As a member of the nLIGHT team since 2011, he has applications experience with a wide range of laser products, including picosecond fiber lasers, direct diode lasers, and multi-kW industrial fiber lasers, and with free-space and fiber-optic beam delivery systems.
About Jan Bernd Habedank
Jan Bernd Habedank is working as a research assistant and doctoral candidate at the Institute for Machine Tools and Industrial Management (iwb). He studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Munich and the Technical University of Darmstadt. Within his research, he focuses on improving lithium-ion batteries with laser-based processes.
About Christian Hagenlocher
Christian Hagenlocher is a Ph.D candidate of the University of Stuttgart. He received his M.Sc. degree in mechanical engineering in 2015 from the University of Stuttgart. Since then he is working at the Institut für Strahlwerkzeuge of the University of Stuttgart in the field of laser welding of aluminum alloys.
About Asato Hara
Mr. Hara was received the M. E degrees in Department of Modern Mechanical Engineering from Waseda University, Tokyo Japan, in 2013. He started his carrier at JFE Steel Corp. in 2013. He has been working for JFE as a researcher for 6 years. His research interest includes laser welding for automotive body in white.
About Takahiro Hara
I received BS in 2018 from Osaka university,Osaka, japan all in department of Mechanical Engineering. Now, I have been master course student in Joining and Welding Research Institute, Osaka University, since April 2018. My areas of research interest are Laser metal deposition (LMD) or laser cladding which is one 3D printing method for metal.
About Jacob Hay
Jacob focuses on high-power laser processing and mechanical design. His laser processing experience includes laser and laser hybrid welding as well as other laser applications such as laser coating removal. Jacob’s mechanical engineering experience includes machine, tooling and optical system design. He is proficient in SolidWorks 3D modeling and drafting software (including tolerancing and GD&T). Since joining EWI in 2013, he has focused primarily on laser-based systems and processes. His knowledge of 3D CAD design, product validation, and manufacturing implementation round out his broad skill set.
About Manuel Henn
Manuel Henn is a PhD student at the Institute for Laser Technology (IFSW) at the University of Stuttgart. During his master studies in mechanical engineering at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg he concentrated on the fields of mechanical engineering and laser technology. Currently he is specialized in deep hole drilling of steel with ultrashort pulsed laser radiation.
About Gerrit Hohenhoff
In 2003 he finished his diploma in mechanical engineering, in 2007 his M.Sc.in biomedical engineering and in 2010 his PhD in mechanical engineering. 2003 to 2006 he worked at Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. in the Surface Treatment Group. 2007 to 2010 he was CEO of zbm, and from 2010 to 2013 CEO of BiomeTI e.V. and Head of the BioRegioN office. 2014 to 2015 he was COO of the NeSI GmbH and since 2015 CEO of Hohenhoff Consulting. Since 2017 he is the Head of Additive Manufacturing - Polymers and Multi-Materials Group in the Production and Systems Department at LZH.
About Eiji Hori
Eiji Hori receives his B.E. and M.E. degrees in mechanical engineering from Kobe University in 1990 and 1992 respectively. He joined Osaka University in 2018, and is now Specially Appointed Researcher of Joining and Welding Research Institute. He has been engaged in the research of laser additive manufacturing, and laser welding.
About Bang Hu
Mr. Hu Bang is currently a PhD candidate of Hunan University in China. Mr. Hu graduated with a Master degree in Mechanical Engineering from Hunan University in 2019. Mr. Hu's research expertise is ultrashort pulsed laser processing of superhard materials. Mr. Hu is participating in the Major Special item of High-grade NC Machine tool and basic Manufacturing equipmentproject Superhard abrasive grinding wheel CNC precision dressing technology and equipment .
About Chongjing Hu
He is a Ph.D candidate of the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. He is mainly engaged in the research on the process and mechanism of medium thickness carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum matrix composite, superalloy and ceramics using high-power fiber laser cutting.
About Osezua Ibhadode
Mr. Ibhadode, who is a PhD student in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering, University of Waterloo. His PhD project is on topology optimization of Additive Manufacturing. He did his MSc in Mechanical Engineering (Design and Production), University of Lagos and his BSc in Mechanical Engineering, University of Benin.
About Theresa Jähnig
Theresa Jähnig (f) completed her studies in Microtechnology at University of Applied Sciences Zwickau (Germany) in 2014. During the master´s degree she worked on highresolution birefringence measurement setups for quantification of single crystal diamonds and completed her studies in Nanotechnology with a Master in Engineering at University of Applied Sciences Zwickau (Germany) in 2016. Since 02/2017 Theresa works as a scientific researcher at the Institute for Manufacturing Technology of the Technical University of Dresden on the topic of micro-structuring deep drawing tools and intermediates with Direct Laser Interference Patterning to enable a lubricant-free deep drawing process of metal sheets.
About Meng Jiang, MD
Meng Jiang is a Ph. D candidate at Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), China. He is also a visiting student at The Pennsylvania State University, USA. He received his BS and MS degree from Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT) in 2013 and 2015, respectively. His research interests include laser welding under vacuum, elucidation of laser welding phenomena and numerical modelling of heat transfer, fluid flow and evaporation of elements in laser welding process.
About Albert Leonhard Jung
Albert Leonhard Jung is an experienced application engineer who began as an intern at TRUMPF in 2011, and joined full time in 2013. He has a Bachelor of Science in medical engineering and works with many of the short pulsed lasers for marking, cleaning, structuring, and ablating. He is very capable in optimizing patterns for high speed scanning, as well as working with 2D Scanning systems. Within the last three years he has focused on surface treatment applications where there is a visibly increasing demand.
About Yasuhiro Kamba
He received PhD degree in the field of high peak power fiber laser from Tokai University, Japan in 2014. He was working on XeF excimer laser development and hybrid ArF excimer laser development since 2014. He joined the high-power thin disk laser development as a visiting researcher for two years in the HiLASE Centre, Czech Republic. His present research is a precise laser micromachining using hybrid ArF excimer laser.
About Yiyun Kang
M. Eng. Yiyun Kang, born in 1992 in China, master majored in mechanical engineering at University of Applied Science Kaiserslautern and the USST China, bachelor was finished in Beijing Jiaotong University majoring in measurement and control technology. Since October 2018, she has been working in the department of laser material processing and materials testing at the research center Photonik-Zentrum Kaiserslautern.
About Maren Kasischke
Maren Kasischke graduated from the Ruhr-Universität Bochum with a Master's of Science in mechanical engineering in 2015. She is a PhD student working at the Chair of Laser Applied Technologies at the same university. Her research interests focus on laser technologies for the fabrication of thin film transistors with a solution-processable metal oxide semiconductor and graphene electrodes for the low-cost electronics.
About Metin Kayitmazatir
He is a Ph.D. pre-candidate in Mechanical Engineering Department in University of Michigan - Ann Arbor(UofM), working under supervision of Dr. Jyoti Mazumder. He received his bachelor degree in Industrial Engineering Department in Turkey then completed his master's degree in Integrative Systems and Design Department in UofM. He was awarded to fellowship by Turkish Ministry of Education to pursue his graduate studies in 2016.
About Christian Kledwig
Since I finished my master’s degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Applied Sciences in Kempten, I work for DMG MORI as a development engineer. At this I focus on sensor and monitoring systems for the powder-fed directed-energy disposition process. Since 2018 I am furthermore a PhD student at the University of Technologies in Dresden and are working at my dissertation about sensor and monitoring systems in directed-energy deposition for industrial use.
About Seung Hwan Ko
Seung Hwan Ko received his B.S. degree from Younsei University of Science and Technology, Republic of Korea, in 2000. He then re-ceived his M.S. degree from Seoul National University, Republic of Korea, in 2002 and his Ph.D. degree from University of California, Berkeley, in 2006. He is currently a Professor at the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Seoul National University. His major area is laser processing development for flexible, stretchable, and transparent electronics for wearable electronics applications.
About Cara Kolb
Cara Kolb studied mechanical engineering with a focus on thermodynamics and management at the Technical University of Munich. Already during the master, Cara Kolb completed a trainee program in the field of Additive Manufacturing (AM) and gained experience through various working student activities. Currently, she works at the Technical University of Munich, TUM Department of Mechanical Engineering, Institute for Machine Tools and Industrial Management. Her research is in the field of AM with a special focus on Laser Beam Melting, enabling the process to fabricate industry-relevant components of a high dimensional accuracy and surface quality.
About Young Kwon
Young Kwon joined Powerlase Photonics Ltd. in Crawley, UK as Managing Director in 2011 from Northrop Grumman in Orlando FL USA. He is now President/CEO of Andritz Powerlase Ltd. in the UK and Andritz Powerlase Inc. in the USA. He has been working in the laser industry over 30 years for commercial, medical, defense and industrial applications. He received a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado in Boulder, USA.
About Xin Li
Xin Li is a doctoral candidate of Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics (WNLO), Huazhong University of Science & Technology (HUST), China. He is now focusing on the research of spectral analysis of laser-arc hybrid welding. He is also interested in laser-arc hybrid welding process monitoring & control. He has published 3 SCI journals and applied for 2 Chinese invention patents.
About Zhibin Lin
Zhibin Lin works as a senior research scientist in the Equipment & Solutions Division in MKS Instruments, Inc. He received his Bachelor degree in physics from Peking University, China in 2002 and Ph.D. in physics from the University of Virginia in 2008. In 2012, he joined Electro Scientific Industries (ESI) as an R&D research scientist. His current research interest is computational modeling and simulation of laser-material processing, focusing on utilizing advanced laser technology for industrial micromachining applications. He has published over 25 refereed journal articles and co-authored two book chapters.
About Jannik Lind
Jannik Lind is a Ph.D candidate of the University of Stuttgart. He received his M.Sc. degree in mechanical engineering in 2018 from the University of Stuttgart. Since then he is working at the Institut für Strahlwerkzeuge of the University of Stuttgart in reasearch collaboration with Precitec GmbH & Co KG in the field of laser cutting.
About Bowen Liu
I am studying for a doctorate in engineering at the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, China. I mainly study the interaction mechanism between nanosecond pulsed laser and material native oxide, and the effect of nanosecond pulsed laser on the surface modification of materials.
About Monan Liu
Monan Liu received her Bachelor and Master in Condensed Matter Physics from Jilin University, China. She received her PhD in Physcis and Applied Physics from Nanyang Thechnological University in 2013. She has been working as a lecturer in Jilin University since 2013. Her research focus is on micro-nanostructures by laser direct-writing and biomimetic micro-nanostructure design.
About Jing Long
Jing Long is currently a Ph.D. student in the Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. She obtained her bachelor's degree from Ocean University of China and majored at optical information science and technology. Her current research interest is 3D micro/nanofabrication via two-photon polymerization and 1D nanomaterials assembly.

About Marco Mazzarisi
Marco Mazzarisi is a second year Ph.D. student at Polytechnic of Bari. His doctoral research investigates the use of Additive Manufacturing techniques for fabrication and repair of metal components. He adopts a multidisciplinary approach that encompasses modeling, production, in-process monitoring and environmental assessment of Direct Laser Metal Deposition, through numerical simulation and experimental validation. He holds a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Building Engineering and a second master’s degree in Management Engineering from Polytechnic of Bari, Italy.
About Mark Mcdonald
Mark McDonald graduated with an MPhys in Physics from Heriot-Watt University in June 2017. His final year project was entitled “High Bandwidth Vibration Sensing Using Optical Fibres” in which he modelled and built a sensor using optical fibres to measure high frequency vibrations. During the summer of 2016 he completed a project within the group using a nanosecond laser to create black marks on anodised aluminium within the Applied Optics and Photonics Research Group at Heriot-Watt. After completing his degree he joined this group as a PhD student working on laser post processing of additively manufactured metal parts.
About Xiangmeng Meng
Xiangmeng Meng, born in 1990 in Dezhou, China, received his PhD in the field of Material Science and Engineering from Shandong University at 2017. Currently, he is working as a post-doc researcher in the department “Welding Technology” in BAM Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing in Berlin, Germany. His research topics focus on the process development and numerical simulation of arc welding and laser beam welding.
About Carlos Molpeceres
Carlos Molpeceres is Director at Laser Centre Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and Professor at the same institution. He is as well Leader of the Research Group Advanced Laser-Based Manufacturing. He is currently Chair of LAMOM conference at SPIE Photonics West and he has been Co-Chair and Committee Member in different Conferences: SPIE Optics and Photonics, European PV Solar Energy Conference (PVSEC) , and LANE (CIRP conferences). Currently his research activity is focused in the development of new laser micro and nano processing, using state of the art laser technology, in the fields of energy, biotechnology and translational oncology research.
About Tara Murphy
Tara Murphy graduated from the University of Bath having studied physics. She is currently working as an Applications Engineer at NKT Photonics in the UK office having held previous roles with Fianium and SPI Lasers. She has gained extensive knowledge of lasers for industrial and scientific applications using fibre lasers, ultrafast lasers and supercontinuum sources. She has co-authored patents relating to laser processing materials and presented technical papers internationally.
About Ruksan Nadarajah
Ruksan Nadarajah was born in Krefeld,Germany, in 1990. He received the B.Sc and M.Sc in Nano engineering - process technology from the University Duisburg-Essen, Germany, in 2015 and 2017, respectively. In 2018, he joined the Departmend of Technical Chemistry University Duisburg-Essen, Germany, as a scientific assistant and PhD-Student. Yoshiki NAKATA received his M.S. and Ph. D. from Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan, in 1994 and 1996, respectively. Since 1996 he joined the Graduate school of Information Science and Electrical Engineering, Kyushu University, Fukuoka, Japan, as a research associate. Since 2006 he joined the Institute of Laser Engineering (ILE), Osaka University, Osaka, Japan, as an associate professor. His research interests are material processing by ultra-short laser, fabrication of nanomaterials and their applications in plasmonics, laser spectroscopy, peta-watt laser project in ILE.
About Alexander Olowinsky, Ph.D.
Dr. Alexander Olowinsky studied Mechanical Engineering at the RWTH Aachen. He received his PhD in 2003 in the field of laser beam micro forming for adjustment purpose in microassembly. He has more than 20 years of experience in laser beam micro processing. Alexander Olowinsky is heading the group micro joining within the department of Ablation and Joining at Fraunhofer ILT with 15 scientists. His main interests are laser based joining technologies in metals, polymers and glass/ceramics such as laser beam welding and soldering and laser beam bonding as a non-melting joining technique for silicon and glass or other non-metallic components.

Optical Engineer from the Institut d'Optique in France, she has worked in many fields of optics from Space applications to Laser Range Finders and now laser beam shaping.
About Rui Pan
Rui Pan received her Ph.D. degree from the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin, China, in 2018. She currently is a postdoc in the group of Prof. Minlin Zhong at the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Tsinghua University. About Milton Pereira
Professor Milton Pereira has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (1995), where he teaches for undergraduate and postgraduate levels and where he also finished his Masters (1998) and Ph.D. (2004) in Mechanical Engineering. He did the postdoctorate at Technological Institute of Aeronautics (2006) and at the Fraunhofer Institut für Lasertechnik (ILT), linked to RWTH Aachen, Germany, in the field of laser materials processing (2013). He deals with precision engineering, working mainly on the following topics: manufacturing processes, process optimization, machine design, metrology, design methodology, and laser materials processing.
About Gediminas Raciukaitis
Gediminas Raciukaitis graduated from Vilnius University in 1978 and got his PhD degree in 1985 in the field of non-linear spectroscopy. Since 1995, he is with the Ekspla and holds a position as a consultant on laser technologies. His activity related to the application of lasers in the industry was moved to the Institute of Physics in 2004. He is head of the Department of Laser Technologies with nearly 80 employees. His research areas include development of new laser sources, applications of laser in material micro-processing with ultra-short pulse lasers and photonics and implementation of laser technologies in the industry.

Arifur Rahaman is a PhD student at CREOL, the college of Optics & Photonics in Laser and Optical Engineering program.He joined at CREOL, UCF at fall 2016 . He is working in Ultrafast laser processing lab under supervision of Dr. Xioming Yu and co-supervision of Dr. Aravinda Kar . His primary work is developing ultrafast laser processing system for industrial applications.

Mirko Riede studied mechatronics at the Technische Universität Dresden. In 2011 he finished his master thesis about high precision laser cladding at the Fraunhofer IWS Dresden. For the last 5 years he has been working on several research projects related to additive manufacturing and structuring. Today he is the group manager of 3D Manufacturing at the Additive Manufacturing Center Dresden (AMCD) at Fraunhofer IWS.

About Yung Shin
Professor Yung C. Shin received his Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in Madison in 1984, and currently is the Donald A. & Nancy G. Roach Professor of Advanced Manufacturing at Purdue University. He is also director of Center for Laser-based Manufacturing at Purdue University. His research areas include laser processing of materials, advanced machining processes, and intelligent systems. He has published over 390 papers in archived journals and refereed conference proceedings. He is a fellow of SME and ASME and also a member of LIA, ASM and TMS.
About Marco Smarra
Mr. Smarra studied engineering physics at the University of Applied Sciences Muenster. He received his master degree in 2011. Since 2009 he is working at the Laser Center of the University of Applied Sciences Muenster in the field of cutting with cw-fiber lasers and surface structuring using ultra-short laser pulses. His main field of research is beam shaping.
About Mikhail Sokolov
Dr Mikhail Sokolov is Research Fellow at Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), University of Warwick. He obtained his D.Sc. from Lappeenranta University of Technology, Finland, 2015 and worked at Luleå University of Technology, Sweden. He has published over 10 research papers. His focus is on laser beam welding, remote laser welding and methods for improving welding efficiency.
About Ethan Sprague
Ethan Sprague received his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley in 2016. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Michigan studying the implementation of plasma spectrometry to improve the direct metal deposition process for copper rich materials.
About Felix Spranger
Felix Spranger studied precision engineering at the University of Applied Sciences Jena and production technology at the Technical University Berlin. His master thesis dealt with build-up strategies for laser metal deposition of titanium for additive manufacturing. He works in the field of laser surface structuring at BAM as PhD student in an interdisciplinary research project combining laser surface engineering and tribology.

About Jens Standfuss
Dr. Jens Standfuss studied materials science at the Bergakademie Freiberg and the Technical University of Dresden from 1988 to 1993. He received his PhD in mechanical engineering from the Technical University of Dresden in 1998. Since 1993 he works at Fraunhofer Institute for Material and Beam Technology IWS Dresden. Since January 2015 he is the head of the business unit “Joining”. The Joining division develops adapted joining technologies and accompanies them into industrial applications. The focus is on laser beam welding, friction stir welding, magnetic pulse joining as well as bonding and fiber composite technology.
About Stoyan Stoyanov
Stoyan Stoyanov is a PhD Student at the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT in Aachen. His research focuses on the investigation and application of novel beam shaping techniques for process optimization of laser fusion-cutting systems. He obtained his Master of Science in physics at the RWTH Aachen University in 2013. In his master thesis he developed a high-speed coaxial monitoring system for fault detection and quality control in the laser powderbed fusion.

About Yuuki Tamaru
Yuuki Tamaru received BE and ME in the field of ultrafast optics from Tokyo University of Science, Japan in 2014 and 2016, respectively. He joined Gigaphoton Inc. and was involved in research and development division in 2016. He is working on a development of deep ultraviolet (DUV) light source for hybrid Argon fluoride (ArF) excimer laser.

Leonie Tatzel studied electrical engineering and information technology at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Karlsruhe, Germany, and at the Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden. Since April 2018 she does an industrial doctorate at TRUMPF Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH + Co. KG in Ditzingen, Germany, under the supervision of Prof. Puente León.
About Maritha Theron
Maritha is from the National Laser Centre at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), South Africa. She holds a Masters of Engineering degree from the University of Cape Town and a Metallurgical Engineering Degree from the University of Pretoria. Her research fields of responsibility are laser transformation hardening and laser cladding, but she is also involved in laser welding and powder-blown laser additive manufacturing. All her research and development projects are focused on trying to meet the needs of industry.
About Ze Tian
Ze Tian is a Ph.D candidate and he is in the third year of PhD study in School of Materials Science and Engineering at Harbin Institute of Technology in China. His major is materials processing and engineering. His research focuses on environmental laser cleaning and laser surface texturing technology. Cleaning objects include steels, aluminum alloys, titanium alloys and composite materials.
About Eva Vaamonde
Eva Vaamonde was born in Santiago de Compostela, SPAIN in 1978. She has obtained her bachelor degree in Physics from the University of Santiago de Compostela. She has also earned her engineer degree on Material Sciences Degree from the University of Salamanca. She has more than 10 years of expertise in laser welding technologies applied to metallic materials (steel, aluminium alloys, nickel alloys, titanium alloys. She has been involved in different R&D activities related to high power laser welding processes and joint characterization for automotive, aeronautics, shipbuilding, metal-mechanical or energy applications.
About Joerg Volpp
Dr.-Ing. Jörg Volpp studied in Stuttgart (Germany). During his studies, he worked for the IFSW in Stuttgart and as an intern for Bosch GmbH in Charleston, SC (USA). He finished his diploma thesis at Bosch GmbH, Schwieberdingen (Germany) in 2011 in the field of laser welding of steels. From 2011 till 2017, he worked for BIAS GmbH in Bremen (Germany) in the field of laser deep penetration welding and received his PhD in 2017. Since June 2017, he works in the Laser group at Luleå University of Technology (Sweden).
About Hiroyuki Wada
He graduated from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1992. He worked for SONY Co. from 1992 to 2005. His research in SONY was fabrication of SHG laser and laser process. About Jian Wang
Jian Wang is a doctoral candidate at Northwestern Polytechnical University. His major is Materials Science and Engineering, and she focuses on the fundamental research on wire and arc additived manufactured Ti-6Al-4V, including grain morphology control, heat treatment and mechanical propertise. The findings on this field will promote the development of new titanium alloys befitting additive manufacturing technology.

About Wei Xiong
Dr. Wei Xiong is currently a Professor at Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics in Huazhong University of Science & Technology. He got his Ph.D. in 2013 from University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and he obtained his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Fudan University, respectively. His current research interest is laser-based 3D/4D micro/nano-fabrication.
About Mark Zediker
Dr. Zediker co-founded NUBURU to develop high power blue laser systems for welding batteries and 3-D printing. Dr. Zediker’s companies have received numerous awards for innovation and best new products. Dr. Zediker received his Ph.D. and M.S. in Nuclear and Plasma Engineering from the University of Illinois along a B.S. in Engineering Physics. His graduate research was focused on laser technology and Fusion energy. Dr. Zediker is a senior fellow of SPIE and has received the distinguished Alumni Service award from the University of Illinois. Dr. Zediker has authored over 200 papers and has been granted over 90 patents.
About Penghui Zhao
I am from Hunan University located in Changsha, China. I am currently studying for a doctor's degree. My research interests are focused on the application of machine learning in field of laser processing and intelligent monitoring . At present, I am engaged in the research of adaptive laser welding, welding quality controlling, seam tracking and metal-based hybrid additive and subtractive manufacturing, and devotes myself to the research of new technology.
About Alessandro Zunino
Alessandro Zunino got his BSc in Physics with honours at the University of Milan in December 2015. Later he kept studying at the same University, where he got the MSc in Physics with honours in April 2018. He is now a PhD student at the Italian Institute of Technology (iit) in Genoa, where he works on acousto-optics and laser applications for material processing.
